Submission Workshop - Browse Carbon Dumping

Woodside's proposed Browse gas project seeks to drill 50 wells into the pristine Scott Reef. If approved the Browse project would emit over 1.6 billion tonnes CO2-e and directly impact over 24 conservation significant species including threatened and migratory species like the green turtle and the blue whale. Our marine ecosystems and climate cannot afford for this project to go ahead.

In an attempt to greenwash the Browse gas project Woodside submitted the Browse Carbon Pollution Dumping Project (CPD) to the Federal Government. This experimental carbon dumping plan seeks to inject 52 million tonnes of emissions under the sea floor through 7 injection wells close to the pristine Scott Reef.

Why this matters:

Woodside has previously said this carbon dumping technology is “high risk, high cost” and “unproven.” Similar projects like Chevron's Gorgon dumping project have operated for decades and failed to meet even a third of their storage targets. There is no guarantee the carbon dumping will work, and it puts protected species and marine environments at huge risk.

It is so critical that we call out this failed technology and stand against carbon dumping greenwashing being used to facilitate new fossil fuel projects.

We need to keep those emissions in the ground if we are to have any hope at securing a safe climate!

Public submissions to the federal government are open until January 16th.

Browse can't go ahead without Woodside's carbon dumping. This is a critical opportunity to #SaveScottReef from risky carbon dumping and gas extraction projects.

Join us for a quick hour of power 6pm AWST / Perth time (or 9pm AEDT) Monday January 13th online. We'll be sharing everything you need to know about Woodside's proposals, and step you through making a submission in real time.
