Save Scott Reef: sign on to the Conservation Council of WA’s submission!

Woodside’s revised Browse proposal does next to nothing to mitigate risks to Scott Reef. There remains a high risk of:
- Subsidence of the Sandy Islet
- Catastrophic oil spills
- Harm to endangered species
Offshore oil and gas drilling is inherently dangerous. To protect Scott Reef, Woodside’s Browse gas must be rejected.

Scott Reef is under threat from Woodside’s monstrous Burrup Hub. But your voice has a chance to be heard! Will you add your name to our calls to #SaveScottReef?
The WA Environmental Protection Agency has already found the proposal for Browse, a massive oil and gas industrial zone at Scott Reef, poses unacceptable risks to endangered whales, turtles and other species. Woodside have now submitted a revised proposal – making minor changes to their plans in an attempt to sweep environmental impacts and the risk of oil spills under the rug.
Drilling will still be taking place unacceptably close to this unique marine ecosystem, which includes Sandy Islet, a critical nesting ground for endangered green sea turtles. Gas drilling is highly likely to cause subsidence of the ocean floor, potentially submerging this tiny atoll altogether.
As the revised proposal states, there is no change to the area of direct or indirect seabed disturbance estimates.
While Woodside has significantly lowered the envelope of its drilling field, we’re still talking about an area four times the size of Rottnest Island (Wadjemup).
There is no reduction in the amount of gas they plan to extract from beneath this unique marine habitat, or the emissions that will be generated by the project.
Ordinary Western Australians can now comment on Woodside’s revised plans. This is a huge opportunity for everyday people to advocate for the protection of Scott Reef and our climate.

What are CCWA and Go Beyond Gas calling for?
Offshore oil and gas drilling is inherently dangerous. The revised proposal is simply Woodside tinkering around the edges. To protect Scott Reef, Woodside’s Browse gas must be rejected.
Alongside experts, we are calling for the Environmental Protection Agency to acknowledge that Woodside’s revised proposal still poses unacceptable risks to endangered marine life at Scott Reef, and to recommend that it is rejected.
We call for an end to new and expanding fossil fuels in Western Australia, and for a just transition to renewable energy for better protection of nature and our climate.
How will adding my name make a difference?
It’s highly unusual for public comment to be reopened following a revised proposal. This opportunity to have our say on Woodside’s revised plans is a result of scientific scrutiny and public opposition to the threats to Scott Reef.

Can I write my own submission?
