Call Premier Cook - WA must consider climate!

The Western Australian government is now refusing to take responsibility for assessing greenhouse gas emissions.

Environment Minister Reece Whitby announced in Parliament on Tuesday 15th October that the government will no longer impose emissions conditions on any major fossil fuel projects like Woodside’s Burrup Hub expansion.

Instead, projects with potential to emit over 100,000 Tonnes of emissions will be deferred to the commonwealth government under the Safeguard Mechanism.

These changes are a massive blow to WA’s climate and nature protection, and come at a time when the North West Shelf Extension, Australia's biggest climate decision, is about to be made.

We’re calling all Western Australians to band together and call the State Premier, Roger Cook, to show our outrage of this new policy and legislation and urge the WA government to reject Woodside's North West Shelf Extension and Burrup Hub!

Calling Premier Cook's office can be scary, but leaving a message is really simple and super impactful:

  • State your name and where you live.
  • Let them know you are disapointed in the reform
  • Tell them a bit about why you care about climate change (for example, do you love forests? Do you worry about your kids' futures?)

The office staff may ask you to write your message in an email - if they do, please ask them to record it as an audio message.
